hey, i was just wondering whether this would work. if i was to get a ford straight six, out of a before-AU falcon (probably an EL if you are Ford literate), would it fit in a 720 utes engine bay? it'd be a pretty sick car, even the stockers manage to fly and get the wheels spinning...

would it fit, and if it wouldn't would a ecotec v6 out of a vs commo fit better... reason i prefer ford is the old mans mate owns Fordpower... mmmm easy access to parts...

This should probably be in 'off topic', but anyways... There was one for sale in ACT not long ago engineered with a buick 6, so thats possible. Talkin to a fella the other day reckons his fj20t bolted straight in... probably a better option.

I saw a 720 with an rb20det once.I was told that the owner did some cutting etc,but it fit right in.So the ford straight six should fit

i wouldnt use the ford six - WAY heavier than anything else (except maybe a 265 hemi).

seriously - the FJ20 is the go there!

yeah, but i was thinking 'originality' and 'servicability'.... the engines in even the EF's give alright power, enough to get you from the 'sane side' of the speedo to the 'lock me up' side pretty quickly. also gets the wheels spinning alright... even for a 1700kg monster.

still, should probably take advice from the professionals.... if it was good it would have already been done...

how much is a front-cut worth for a 1uz-fe? perhaps this would be a better option...

dunno, but i thought the rb20 was a 2.0l, whereas the Australian Ford six is a 4.0l inline six. wouldn't this mean that it would be bigger by a reasonable amount???

also, a thing i forgot to say in my earlier post was the availability of performance parts for the Ford inline six. you can get Powerdyne supercharger kits promising 200rwk+, from $2,500. for the fj20t to get the same power to weight as the stock inline six you would be testing the reliability of the fj20t? still, i know little about the japanese tech. engines, and i can see the advantages of using such an engine...

*edit* i don't mean this like i am a know-it-all, i am asking questions so i can develop my mechanical knowledge... big words

you can not expect to throw a super charger on a ford six and expect 200rwkw
with out inturnal mods to the engine so their for you are looking at a lot more than $2500 pistons, valves, valve springs, ect, ect and they are very hevy.
the fj20det is a verry strong motor and will make more power with more reliability as they are built for the boost
and dont forget the sr20det

ok, you got me there. should really think more about what I am saying b4 is say it... i do understand what you are sayin...

sr20det and fj20det are both good (from what I have heard from the site) japanese motors (i'm not knocking japanese motors... they have some pretty damn good technology), but I wanted to stick with something a bit closer to home like the ford six or holden v6... maybe it wasn't as good an idea as i thought...

hey you're on the right track though dude - don't be too harsh on yourself. crazy conversions are great and we all need a bit of variety.

if you want something a little "closer to home" why not try the rover V8? get a post 1984 3.9L all alum 185kg engine and put a kitted trimatic behind it, put an M90 eaton on top and have some.....uh, fun

yeh mate i didnt meen to make you sound silly just didnt whant you to dive in and sudenly realise its a lot more work than you realised have you thaught about the toyota lexen quad cam v8 you can pick them up at a resonable price and they are a very strong motor keep the emagination flowing
and its good to see you chose a ford mill over holden as when im not a datsun nissan freak i like my fords
