Hi everyone.

I just bought NOPSI's datsun! at the moment it has a long skyline box it in which will be a good box but needs the tailshaft shortened. i have also have been advised to get a a stanza box, which will bolt up, but what about the cross member?

I have also been offered a TRX SSS box. will this be any help to me?

Cheers
Nate

um not sure but i think a trx box is about the same size as a 240k box so to big

the stanza box I think is the narowest and a vary nice box to boot just pull the detent springs out give them a good strech this makes them nice and clicky

Welcome to the club, it's the place for fun.
OK. as far as i know, the L series SSS five speed gearbox is a dogleg type, while the later TRX has a conventional shift pattern. Both are an overdrive in fifth & direct in fourth type.
I don't believe that there was ever a model known as the TRX SSS.

Both the SSS & the follow-on TRX gearboxes are perfectly good units, so don't shy away from a good deal if only because you think they are inferior. Theyre not, but they are a little diferent.

It's the model code TRX SSS that i found a bit odd. The SSS box probably came from a 200B SSS while the TRX was the sporty version of the following Bluebird range.

See if you can figure out the position of reverse gear in the shift pattern & we can tell you which box it is. [either 'left & foward', or 'right & back']

Hi Nate.
I have a Stanza 5 speed here if you would like to have a look at it and see if it is what you need or just to compare with the TRX box.If you give me a ring we can work something out.PH 33513655.

thanks dodgeman ... sounds like you are the datto wizard around here

Jim - i will take you up on that offer to have a chat about the box, although it will probably be closer towards the end of the week if thats ok?

now i am trying to work out the ignition. i think it has been set up for electronic ignition but nothing is hooked up ... time to get my head underhte bonnet i think! i love a project!

Craig never had electronic ignition on the car. Just move the coil and ballast resistor to the other side of the engine bay and extend the wiring.

TRX box or 200B SSS box are both long boxes, like the Skyline box in the car now. There are only 2 short/stumpy 5spds available - the Stanza and R30 Skyline boxes. The Stanza has better ratios, without the jump from 2nd to 3rd that the R30 box and most other Datto 5spds have. It makes a difference at Mt Cotton - believe me.
