#1 What 4 spds fit a manual sedan
vex66 Posted on: 2005/6/30 14:45
I am thinking of options to replace the A12 in my manual sedan. I want more torque but don't need a 5 speed or want to modify the transmission tunnel. Which of the following would fit without modifying the tunnel?
A14 & 4spd
A15 & 4spd
L16 & 4spd (Stanza)
Any other ideas.
I edited the heading as it's not really appropriate. I really want to know what 4spds fit in the manual tunnel as this seems to be the main limiting factor

im thinkin of doin a simillar thing. probbaly the A14 or A15.

L series will be alot harder to do, especially if you are doing it yourself. im a bit of a noob here and ive never done either but ive been assured that A series is relativly easy.

Keep us posted on what you decide and y :D

Hi if you have any A series motor from the A10 through to the A15, Then any of the four speed gearboxes from these motors will bolt up to each other, with no alteration to your trans tunnel.
So what I am saying for example. A 120y, or a 1200 four speed will bolt up to any A series motor.
Hope this is what you wanted to know.
Bye.

Thanks Nismo but what I really mean't is will any 4spds from the L series fit without modification. I just thought that they should be smaller than the 5 speed. I should have been more specific.

Anyone have any idea if the L series 4 speed will fit? I really dont want to chop up the transmission hump but the idea of an L16 is tempting

I would have thought the cost difference is neglegable between a L16 & it's bigger brothers.

I mean if I were you, I'd try for a SII Bluey L20B and 5 speed IF it will fit with only a "massage" (aka knockometer adjustment) of the tunnel.

What is & isn't doable?

L series Article in the Tech section of this site
This article doesn't mention gearbox fitting dramas (or lack there of) at all unfortunately.
