Welcome to the club
Perhaps you could add your location to your profile & save some guessing later on. As long as the drum brakes are in good servicable condition & are correctly adjusted, they will serve you well for many many miles. If you are going to cary heavy loads, drive just a bit too fast, or you enjoy some heavy duty "sports" driving down long steep & winding roads, then you will need to adjust your braking technique, or upgrade the brakes. Generally speaking, keep the drums in the short term while you fix up the rest of the ute. Once everything is in order, & you have a little spare cash, then you can move into the mechanicals & upgrade the suspension & brakes. Try to learn as much as you can before you start changing too many things on the ute. That way you make fewer mistakes. You can view topic.
