#1 Need help identifying gearbox......
selaga Posted on: 2005/8/17 11:27
I went to look at a S/H CA18DET, it was originally a FWD, converted to RWD. Bolted to the back, was a manual gearbox, that the owner is not sure what it is....It was fitted in a 1200 ute.

Here is the info...It bolts right up to the back of the CA, it has integral bellhousing, the case doesn't look like it has been split, i.e. front and rear housings look original, as evidenced by the factory grey sealer....Had no shifter, but it has a "single rail" shifter rod, and on top of the shifter hole, about one inch up, it had a thick pin running across the shifter hole, it looks like the shifter, would pivot on this pin. So what do you guys think it is ? Your answer will determine whether I buy the whole lot, or just the motor....

its a bit hard from the discription but i would just be guessing and say its a ca20 box which is what im going to use in my ute. i just posted a pic of my motor and box but i dont know how clearly you can see the box to see if they are identical

Where is the pic ?

What looked a bit "unique" was the pivot pin across the shifter hole, never seen that before.....I have seen external linkages (Top Loader),single rail type, both internal/external (BW S/rail, S5 Mazda), and your usual shifter with a ball on the end, in the socket scenario.....
