#1 Ball joints
datrat_dave Posted on: 2005/9/11 12:26
They're giving me the irrits... Ive pressed them out with a puller i bought from pov cheap but i cant press them back in again! Ive tried bashing them back into their socket with a hammer, mallet, clamps everything but i just cant!
Should i be taking it to someone with acess to a press?

Show me the light please!

Dave

You shouldn't have to press them in, just put them in the hole and tighten the nut.

I;ve fitted these before without presses etc, and they went in quite easily.
Are you sure you have the right set of ball joints?

So you dont actualyl have to press them back on again? I just thought that when you pop them out you would have to pop them back in again, or is that just breaking the seal.....

There the same ball joints, i just fitted new boots around them as the old ones were stuffed

hold on,are you saying that you took the bolt out of the top of the balljoint?as in the bit the steering arm goes through?the steering arm is attached to the balljoint by a castellated nut
covered by the bottom of the strut.you undo the two bolts running throught the steering arm into the strut to get to this bolt.you then
undo the nut,& split the steering arm from the balljoint.if you've taken this bolt out of the balljoint base, then i think you've destroyed the balljoint.even if it did press back into the base,it doubt it'd work too well.

im saying on the steering assembly ive popped out all the ball joints out of their sockets but not taken the bolt out of its housing..., like the picture shown:

Mr_turbo, i got them from Bursons auto... Part number RB18K - they fit really well on the knuckle arm ball joint but not too flush on the steering joint. Not to worry tho they fold under each other good enough & will keep dirt/crap outa there....

Oh and i ended up ordering those crush tubes thru nissan, cost me a whole $7.50 only had to wait one day aswell

Cheers guys
Dave
