#1 fuel pump setups for dual hitachi SU carbs
mperdue Posted on: 2005/10/10 20:04
I'm looking for some more opinions on a fuel pump setup for a dual hitachi setup. I've been told I need 2.5-3psi at the carbs for them to function properly. I know the mechanical pump doesn't have a regulator of any sort. Should I go with a single adjustable electric pump at the tank and remove the mechanical pump? Or use an electric pump and place a regulator near the carbs? Or stick with the original mechanical pump? Thanks for the help -

The standard mech pump is fine running Webers needing 3 psi. If you do elect to run an electric you will need to put a regulator on close to the carbs. For a road car I have always found my twin carbs run fine with the mechanical pump.

Teretonga is right. You should not have any problems with the stock pump unless you go racing, & even then, it may well be OK.

Would it be of any use to put an adjustable regulator and gauge on the output? Holley makes a dual output regulator for 0-4psi and gauges are pretty cheap also.

I also need to locate parts to do the plumbing since I'll be building the fuel lines from scratch. Summit Racing may have what I need but I'd appreciate any other suggestions. A lot of their plumbing parts have really tacky blue anodize that I'd like to avoid if possible. Thanks for the help -
