#1 HELP! removing welch plug
gino_120y Posted on: 2005/10/30 3:53
Help! Advice needed for removing the welch plug from the back of the head.

Is there anyway of removing it without taking off the head?

Any help would be much appreciated,
thanks

If the engine was out it would make it easier to do. Unfortunately room is limited with the head on and the engine still in the car.
I am sure you could get it out, but seating a new one would be a pain

Rather than take the head off, I would remove the engine. It's about the same amount of work, but you won't have to buy a head gasket.

If you pull the engine, you can replace the one behind the flywheel too. You will kick yourself if you pull the head to replace the welch plug, only to have the rear block one start to leak a week later. Use brass ones & never wory about rust outs again.
