Ignition interferes with the TV- missus not happy

I have just upgraded to one of those GT40 solid state coils (squareish looking rather than cylindrical like a normal coil) and now you can see each cylinder firing as a line accross the tv screen.......
hmmmm might be useful for tuning ![]() Does anyone know what might be going on here? Are the leads not coping with the extra spark form this type of coil or is it related to the ballast resistor? (it said to retain the ballast resistor on the installation instructions) any help would be appreciated

Where is the TV in relation to the coil? As in, either side of the fire wall? Or in the garage vs. in the Boudoir?
(Assuming they are both in the car...) If it is like a radio it could be the grounding of either or both, or the telly electricals may need a filter. But I'm no bright spark.

Its normaly leads that causes it. The leads will need to arcing out for this to happen. Check under the bonnett in a dark place to see if the leads are arcing out.

on a side note - with the small GT40 coil, watch out for it over heating if you give it a real hard time. once it stops, thats it, you're staying where ever you are till you get a new one
i've had it happen a while ago and after asking around decided to stick with the oil filled cylinder as they self cool better.p.s : try moving the car out of the lounge room .... might help with the interferance on the telly

errrrrrrrr yeah- I should have specified. There is not and never will be a television, playstation, italian leather steering wheel, neon lights or blue arse fly paintjob in or anywhere near my car
Sincerest apologies to anyone who thinks those things are important, and have looked at this thread in the expectation of seeing a tv equipped 1200. I have the deepest sympathy for you, and anyone you choose to share these lame fantasies with Anyways, the TV in question is in the living room, under the same roof, about 7m away. (the car is in the spare bedroom not the loungeroom )I'll have a look for arcs, thanks for the suggestions.

Those small GT40 coils dont like vibration or heat.
Grunterhunter. Make sure you you mount it away from the motor. You are better off with a oil filled GT40 coil as they cool heaps better. Coops

cheers coop, I'll see how it goes- the car starts better, but no noticeable performance improvement. no arking out anywhere, I checked last night.... might have to keep the old one in the glovebox for emergencies!
Unfamilia- I have no problem with blue, a nice dark blue looks great on 1200's. I was referring to "Blue arse fly" also known as purplelooza- bright metallic blue to purple to green to gold paint jobs that scream out "hey look at me, I have no taste"

Use decent suppression leads with NGK resistor plugs and your problem will be gone
