#1 A15 Head bolts
gcmesa Posted on: 2005/12/4 1:35
Hello, I am wondering if anyone knows if the head bolts from A15 are the same as those on a A14 and A12? I'm asking about length, thickness, and thread. Thanks...

A14 and a15 bolts are the same. They have the number "13" on the head. (So do A12GX bolts) Normal A12 bolts have the number "12" on the head.
The number refers to the tensile strength of the bolt. The "13" bolts are perfered, but either will work.

Extending the question - is there anywhere I can buy new head bolts?

I sent my head (w/bolts) off to the engine builder - but he couldn't find a replacement head bolt...

I'm keen to replace them as one of the bolts is a weird size - and it wasn't in the No.1 head bolt spot. It isn't a hex head, more of a 16point star head. (see pic)

ARP makes head studs for the A14 and A12. Now if A14force is right they should perfect for your application. Check www.apr-bolts.com. Summit Racing has them for like $80.

Slight typo in the web link; it is

http://www.arp-bolts.com/

I'm downloading the catalouge now - is Summit Racing is Australia? I notice that the ARP's website has a homebase of Ventura, California.

Edit: Hmm they don't have head bolts for an A14, but the do have head studs - that you wind into the block, they protrude through the end and you do up nuts rather than bolts.

Will have to see if there is a distributor in Australia....

It's a worry that I didn't even think of that, I'll give them a call and check the difference in price.

Head studs provide a much better/even compression than a bolt apparently.

I keep forgetting to talk to Nissan, should be the first port of call...
