#1 A15 cams
joesa15 Posted on: 2006/1/6 11:07
Hi, I need some advice with cams.
I am looking to up grading to a lumpier cam for the a15.
Can anyone tell me where is the best place to go to for Dato cams in Sydney.I am going to give the the beast a new lease of life. .40 thou oversize pistons, worked head(ported and polished),double valve springs (shimmed),head shave, and hopefully some Weber carbs to finish it of. Also can anyone tell me the diff between a closed chamber & a open chamber head??. Thanks.

you can try stuart wilkins motorsport http://www.swmotorsport.com.au/enginecv.htm for basically all the gear you need, he regrinds a new profile cam for the A series for $120, a closed chamber head is a high compression unit designed for more power and the open chamber head is for low compression fuel economy, closed chamber heads look like a kidney in shape and I think they also have oval ports that are designed to swirl in to the chamber

Head a few k's up the Gt Western to St Marys and have a chat to Jeff at JTS. He's been modifying A series for 30 years and is a great bloke.

yep with teretonga on that...and a 54/86 profile is quite good...even for street.

get stewart to grind you the factory 70 degree
cam,i've used this before & it's a great street cam, plenty of torque from idle,& great top end.
all this from an a12,should be even better in an a15.my father had this cam in an otherwise stock a14,& it was perfect.i've made the mistake of overcamming the a15 i have in my 120y,it's a real problem.you can't get any response in 3rd,but putting it back to second causes the thing to make more power than you want.i'm seriously going to change the cam
from this 35/70 thing thats in it back to a 70
degree cam.if stewart wilkins doesn't know what you mean, get him to ask arthur jackson
about it,he should be working in the back section of the building.plus you'll need heavier valve springs, you just need twin springs to gx
specifications.

Did Jeff Taylor used to race sidecars? My local auto parts shop attendant says if it is him then he knew him very well in the early days! funny if it turns out that it is him!
