tail lights problem, please help

Hello all. Just bought a 74 1200 ute. Noticed that its park light/tail lights aren't working. Its got breaklights though. I'm trying to figure out the system for the tail lights but im having trouble.
Firstly, whats the deal with the big resistor on the side of the headlights switch? Are the tail lights switched on the earth side? Do the tail lights have a relay? Finally does anyone have a wiring diagram for the 1200? Thanks a lot. Matt
