Well one way too get your dad to do something is invite all the members in the brisbane area over for a work fest and promise beer. If he doesn't do something about that than I'm sorry, it's too late. Actually I have the same problem, dad agrees to help me but it never gets started

Just say to him;
"Dad I know you promised to get my ute going, so that when I get my licence I can drive it.
But I know and see that you're busy.
It's cool I am starting to like the idea of driving your car all the time anyway"

There's only 2 things that can motivate an Aussie dad......

1) Titties.
2) Beer.

I would offer 1 or both of these as motivators....

The only tricky part of this is that if you get both of these in the same place at the same time, he's likely to get distracted & forget about your car.

Maybe a beer fridge in the Garage & cetrefolds plastered all over the walls....... Seems to work for most blokes that I know.

After using Phunk's line, you can follow up with heaps of extras, over a few days if needed:

"How much difference in insurance do you reckon there would be on your car if a younger driver like me was driving it?

2 days later, and no response "Did you know it will be an additional $XXX for an under 25 Year old?"

4 days later, and no response "You know there is an additional $XXXX excess in the event of an accident with me at the wheel?"

Or just be honest:

How well does your car drift dad?

Does it do line locks?

How hard can you hit a gutter before a rim bends?

Control arm bends?

Chassis Rail bends?

Do you reckon your car is quicker than a rental car? Company car?

Do you reckon you really need a 4WD to get on the beach or will a little speed be enough?

yeh beer should do the trick but he is likely to have too much. i want him to do a good job and him drunk working on the car doesnt seem like a good thing, since on one occasion when working on it with my lil brother he DROPPED IT OFF A GOD DAMN FORKLIFT. so yeh i think ill stay away from any distractions in the workshop. ill try some of the other ideas with blackmail tho. anyone got any other ideas.

thanks for the help. ill be sure to post pix of it when its all done. (probably in 5 years time at this rate)
