I looked a buying one a couple of years ago in Bris.

All the mod plates, engineering cert's etc. checked out o.k, so I guess your answer is yes.

it would be an absolute weapon, quicker than the ca guys obviously and be a little different aswell.

That depends on the level of modifation of the motors if any and disregaurding the actual car and wieght stuff. For example, how many rally going 1200s do you know of with something other than an A series in them? I don't wan't to be negative about anything here but I get hassled all the time to put a CA in my car and I know that they do pack a punch.

How many rally going 1200's have class rules.
The only reason why FJ's started disappearing from 1200's with street rego, is the engine size limit changed in most states around 8-10 years ago. Before that, many 1200's had them, with a few of these vehicles still existing legally today.

Depends what you mean by quicker.......

In a straight line - Probably.

Round corners - No way.... This was ultimately the reason I decided not to buy this car as 1200's w/ FJ20T's have a reputation for bad understeering.

guys i have to agree with all of you. i am interested in building an all round fast car, not just a drag car, a good friend of mine has got a ca powered datsun 1200 ute, it's a weapon, but without the lsd and appropriate rubber/suspension it is a very dangerous car. tap the gas and it steps out even in a straight line, he's the first to tell you this. I can imagine by putting in a bigger engine you would only be making the car even more unpredictable. i've decided to do the Ca conversion, i'm going to fully upgrade the suspension all round and put in a Hi-Lux lsd. this should make for a fast straight line and cornering vehicle. haha i won't be doing this for a while but i'm about to start collecting all the parts i'll need. starting with that diff ofcourse the whole conversion will be documented and because it's a car it won't go smoothly and it'll take ages but hey isn't that the whole point of having a project.
