if anyones got a 8volt power regulator, the thing thats hooked uup to the coil, ill buy, the closest wrecker to me with a 1200 is 250km away and i cant travel as i lost my licence and wont have for another 4 months

Do you mean the coil ballast resistor for 12V systems? It looks like this:

Get one from Nissan, from the wreckers, or from Repco. This is the stock Datsun 1200 part, and is the same used in other Datsuns. You could even use one from a Toyota if you wanted though the terminal ends are different.

yeah thats the one but doesent a 12 volt resistor fry your dist points.

12V resistor? Nah, they are measured in resistance (ohms) not voltage. If you connect your coil up to straight 12V, the points will eventually fry. That's the purpose of the resistor, to cut down the current supplied to the coil. But all coils get connected straight to 12V during starting. Only the IGN circuit goes through the resistor. So forget 8v resistor or 12v resistor, there's just "the resistor".
