i have 280zx turbo struts. it's pretty involved, but so worth it.

in short:
tear the strut completely down. get 240sx strut cartriges, 240sx coil over kit and cut the strut mounting perches off, shorten the strut tube, rethread the top, weld on the lower support for the spring, at this point you can decide if you want to keep the stock calipers or spend more $$ for really good brakes, i have wilwood brakes on mine, they are very light weight and more than good enough. then you'll probably want a set of bumpsteer spacers. having got all that you'll probably find whatever wheel you had won't fit now, you need 14" wheels minimally, and to clear the brake caliper you'll need a 3/8" spacer which probably means longer wheel studs and aftermarket mag wheel nuts.

I used 81 280zx turbo struts as those had the largest brakes OEM.

there's a guy on ebay that sells all that stuff, you'll need to come up with the 280zx struts ( oh i forgot, wheels bearings, seals, new brake rotors, maybe cryo treatment ) I think my cost including camberplates and misc bits ,stainless lines, brakes pads and shipping was about $2000 so consider a brembo kit for an average car is $3000 and it's only brakes.

I did all the installation in a parking space over about 2 days. it's like a new car, but with even better suspension.

I have 200# springs, that may be a bit hard for your taste, the oem would be 90#, 150# might be a good compromise.

280z is not the same as 280zx

Whats the difference, I have always thought they were the same thing.

it's like a 1200 and a b210. they're similar, and for someone in the states, 280zx's are plentiful and have more parts available.

A 280Z looks like a 240Z but with a 2.8 litre engine, a 280ZX is a bigger car often seen with removable glass panels in the roof, its also arguably not as pretty as the earlier cars.
