#1 H165 diff - how strong?
datsfun Posted on: 2006/5/27 1:08
I am seriously considering buying the H165 LSD that TopGear from this forum is offering. However, i would like to find out what people's experiences are with the sort of power that a H165 can handle.

Presently, my car has about 200bhp@fly and 210lbs/ft and it has an open diff H165 from a stanza. Future mods include a Ca18DEt, pushing around 250-270Bhp. Can the H165 cope with the increase or will it snap halfshafts?

As I am in UK, we do not have H190's easilyavailable, nor for that matter other bigger/stronger diffs.

Thanks

The H165 will chew through gears and break axles, especially if you run slicks. I don't expect it will hold up to the 270hp of a worked CA18det for very long. 150-200hp it might hold up for a while. But when you compare a bw78 borgwarner axle with the H165 ones, the H165 ones look like toothpicks.

my two bobs worth.

I've managed to blow 3 centres and one axel with a standard CA18DE in front of a ute H165 open , however I didn't puppy them.

Basically what you guys are saying is that the H165 can not cope with sustained 200BHP+ action.

Thats a shame, what else can be used that can cope with about 250-270BHP? Rememeber, I am in UK, so maybe all alternatives suggested may not be avialable to me.....BTW, the H165 is in a Datsun Stanza

i think volvo difs are quite strong
but if you do not want to have to shorten it maby see what the ford escort boys are using as they have a similar track and those cossworth motors put out the hp numbers. maby even look at the escort rs2000 diff
