datsunf10 Posted on: 2001/1/29 9:51
Hi,
I'm curious on what the gas milage will be for a stock 71 1200 sport.
Anyone out there know?

Hi Will,
It depends what a 1200 Sport is. If it is the standard single carb A12 with a 3.9 rear and 4 speed you can expect highway figures of over 40 mpg without trying too
hard. Fuel type, speed, individual engine tune and condition, tyre size, weather conditions and driver skill will determine how high she'll go.

i can get to palmy thrashing it on ten bucks, and on new years day i went from waikanae to wellington and back which was 94 miles of highway/city driving with no thought on gas use and
carrying 4 people, and when i topped my tank back up it only took $9.16 worth, or about 9 litres, so that would work out around your figure of 40mpg, the lady at the gas station gave me a
free car wash cause i was driving a 1200 and cause it is mint and was covered in dust and a thousand bugs and bird blood cause they keep flying into me. i have hit 9 birds while i have owned
my coupe. i once hit this possume at about 90miles an hour and when i got home it was spread all over my diff. it was kind of funny. almost as funny as the time me and my mate dave saw this
boat at the wharf that had sunk, man that was the funniest thing i ever saw. yeah, flip a bit off topic there. i cooked a garlic bread in my 4 into 1 headers the other day :) choice eh. cher
boys too much choice from chris.

Will,
Last year I drove my stock (apart from 185/60x13 whells and tires) 1200 coupe from England to Norway and back, a journey of 2700 miles. We kept a record or milages and reciepts
for gas so the result is pretty accurate. The 1200 averaged 42mpg. That's a UK gallon which is 4.54 litres as oposed to a US gallon of 3.785 litres so it's probably about 35mpg in
US gallons.
We cruised at a steady 80mph on the autobahn all the way so maybe if we went slower the economy would be greater? Pretty good for a 28 year old car though.

I never get any less than 30 MPG and the most I ever got was 42 MPG.
