#1 WTB - A87 L series head
R-fastmotorsport Posted on: 2006/6/14 8:18
The story continues ........
I am after an A87 high compression head for the L20. After careful investigation I have found that all 4 intake runners have cracked along the casting seams, letting water into the inlets I'm nearly over it I can tell you
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers

I may have a stock A87 lying around if that's any good to you. I'll check tonight.

otherwise, a friend was in the middle of having a head ported y a L series guru up here (very nice work) when he lost interest in his rally car project. He might be interested in off-loading it. He has a Hollinger too :P

Harry, the ONLY way to help him out is tell him how good an A series turbo would go!

hehe. play nice you lot!

I've got a good bare A87 (with cam towers) under the house. no corrosion in the water galleries. I didn't measure the height, but doesn't seem to have had much (if any) taken off it over the years. I have used a few guides out of it for my old engine. Its yours if you want it. But the standard A87 Inlet ports are puny!

Ferris (with the cute little Civic rallcar at Bathurst) has some good gear for sale. He's given up on his 1600 rallycar project.

the ported head A87 has been crack and hardness tested $500
I'll go and have another look at it and get some pics for you. It really looks the goods, but a few ports need minor finishing work. I can probably organise that to be done for no extra - it should only be about 30minutes work.

dowelled and port matched Datrally manifold $150

Manley tuliped stemmed stainless inlet valves $200

That setup with the right cam (.595" lift version of a 76 cam from SWR would be my recommendation) should get you up around 190bhp on a L20. Its a very similar setup to what was on the good SWR engine I had in the 1200 with 146rwbhp, and that was very rapid!

oh, and worked series love BIG diametre extracters. off the shelf stuff is generally too small and restricts power.

he also has a Hollinger 123 long case box. but I think you'd get a set cut for your box cheaper!

Hey Harry,
very keen on the ported head. If you can have the porting completed, consider it sold.
Give me a call to arrange final details.
Thanks again mate !!!!!!!!!
Oh - and the paper bag wearing wannabe is my brother Dwayne (you met him at Bathurst)- so that's playing as nice as I can get
Cheers
