Rim size for a 1000
Datsun1000
Posted on: 2006/6/30 9:52
Hi Guys,
It's been a while since i have been on here. and i am wondering if anyone can let me know if i can fit a set of 16" rims under a datsun 1000, tyres i would use are 195/35/16, or 205/40/16 As I'm getting kind of board with the oldschool sleeper look. also what offset should i use if they will fit, and do you know if it is a standard offset from something. Cheers guys.

a number of manufacturers make a 195/45/15 which is the same overall diameter as standard 155/12's
195/45/15's are smaller in overall diameter than a 205/40/16 As far as offset goes i think 1200's/1000's are about +20 which will be hard to get in newer looking wheels Nick

The diameter of the original 5.50x12" tyre was 552mm. If you can keep the front tyre size reasonably close to, say 565mm or less, you should have no problem there, but lesser is better, down to about 550mm.
A 5" or 5-1/2" wide rim will work well with a 185 width tyre & if the backspace of the wider rim is very close to 4-1/2", you should be fine. As for the rears, then a 195 width tyre will be good & a 205 will be pushing it if you have rear seat passengers, but OK if not. A 5-1/2" rim is good with the same backspace & a tyre OD of somewhere close to 575mm should give no reason for grief. Personally, I wouldn't go for the 16" but as someone keeps reminding us, we are all "individuals", so if you can make it work, then go for it.

Cheers for that dodgeman!
I think that 16 may look a little big aswell but a 45 profile on a 15 takes away the real low profile look i am going for, the back ist really my concerne as iv have done a fair bit of measuring under there and i thin i can get away with 16"/8" rims with 205/40/16 tyres. My main concern is the front cause i think they will effect the turning circle. and i still want a fairly wide tyre in the front. Any thought?

yeah, my 185/60/13's rub... just. but its low and the offset could be better. there is no possible way you will get a 16 x 8 wheel on without it sticking a mile out the guard.
also i reckon it'll look a bit weird having big wheels and not being lowered to suit, but as DM said, we're all individuals. keep us posted and good luck! You can view topic.
