Yeah I battled through Specialist maths back in the day!
Absolutely hated it at the time but in the end it's a good ENTER score booster. Plus when you get to uni and have to study more maths (ie engineering) You'll already know some of the stuff they are teaching.

I was a pretty lazy student, and didn't to too well on the SAC's and stuff but in the end you just study previous years exams and get a feel for what sort of questions to expect.
you'll be right

Going on what I can remember they cover in specialist maths, Complex numbers is useless, trig was a pain in the arse but a helpfull one to get your head around, some of the integration techniques are useful later on, vectors and vector proofs are stupid, Matrices do some useful things, and if you do any of that harmonics stuff it's a bit interesting.
For a bit of encouragement, it gets a lot more bearable through uni because you are no longer competing with the rest of the state (like VCE), you just have to pass over the bar!

It is all about doing past exams though.
This is something to learn for uni too - the key to good marks is past exams. From 2nd year on I don't remember attending more than one or two lectures on a subject. I just submitted the assignments and got the past exams by week 10. I wish I realised that in high school could have absolutely destroyed the HSC/VCE score.

I'll turn up to uni even less than i do now... Whats specialist maths? is it just that every state does it different or have they changed the courses that much since i went through?? I did Calculus and applicable maths. The calculus is more applicable though (for engineering anyhow)Hey pigdog, sign in on msn if you get stuck... I'm usually on a whole lot more than i should be, and might (emphasis on might ) be able to give ya a hand. You can view topic.
