im just wondering what datsun model a 60 series 4 speed gearbox came out of and how do you tell that it is a 60 series.
i have a spare box that came with the car and it has the nissan logo and a 60 imprinted next to it.

The Tech Section is your friend <---

Definately sounds like a 60 series.

Easiest way to tell is of the case is smooth with no ribs on the outside.

They originally came out in the Sunny B310

yes ive tryied that but i cant seem to find anything.
so if anybody could please help me so that i can find another box for my coupe that would be great. the wierd thing is that its on the right hand side (the marking) and its a nissan logo not a datsun one followed by a big number 60. something lent me towards a sunny box even before this post but if anyone could tell me different. i can get photos as it is out of my car but i dont know how to put them up?

The 56 series has a finned appearance on the bellhousing the 60 series has a smooth appearance.

The 60 series is sometimes known as a smooth case box for this reason.

I got a pic somewhere in a thread.....Open in new window

The one on the left looks like my stanza box, is that a 63a?

The far left is actually a stumpy 5 speed with a CA bellhousing, then it's 60 series then 56 series (4 speeds)

To answer the question. In Australia, the 60 series gearbox was used in models that came with the A14 & A15 engines from new. As far as passenger models go, this means the B310 Sunny Sportswagon. If there are others, I have yet to learn of them.

The 56 series gearboxes were used exclusively behind A10 & A12 engines.

I think it is the same everywhere:
- 60-series were only used behind A14 and A15 engines
- 56-series only used behind A12 (and A13) models.

In North America it means B210s, as they used A14 here. In Australia I take it B210 used A12 engine.

1974 north american B210 with A13 engine used 56-series transmission.

Not too sure about the B310 with A13, those were not sold in North America, but we had A12A B310s and they came with 56-series 4-speeds.

In the Tech Section, most of what is said about 5-speed applies to 4-speeds. Usage, length, and motor mounts are the same between series. In other words, a 4-speed 60 and 5-speed 60 bolt in the same.
