Hay all, Just did a search on ebay and found a set of HKS cams for CA18DET. 264 degrees and 9mm lift. Anyone out there know how these cams would respond in a NA motor. Could I also get the cams Ground to suil my needs.

I just always presumed that Turbo spec cam shafts had and exhaust grind that opened the valve earlier and kept it open longer. Keeping it open longer may not be a bad thing especially for NOS.

I believe the opposite to be true???? Due to positive pressure in a turbo cylinder..if the exhaust was open longer, it would mean more overlap with the intake...thus..you would be dumping plenty of fresh air straight out of the exhaust???

don't turbo cams have less overlap? which is not helpful to a NA engine, because it won't be able to use the exhaust suction to pull in a fresh charge?
I thought that was primarily what made a turbo cam different?

exactly....so if the exhaust duration was longer, (this is what Bundy351 is saying) then the intake duration would be less...(if overlap in a turbo motor is less than on N/A motor). So basically...turbo cams no good for N/A motors!!!

makes sense to me. and a NA cam in a turbo probably results in fire coming out the exhaust a bit more.

As far as I know, the CA18DE cams are the same as the DET ones. This would probably mean that those cams would be an upgrade for either form of the motor. On turbo motors, increased overlap can still be beneficial, it just might push the peak torque point further up in the rev range, but will make more peak power.
