hey everybody, i have been offered a r30 skyline with fj20 in it for $250. it isnt turbo but everything is there. My question is, should i go with this motor, as i will have all the computer, running gear etc. or would i be better of searching for a CA18 and spending more finding all the parts. any opions would be great. cheers

I'd go with the FJ. You are not going to beat that price. The CA swap is more common, there is more information about CA swaps, but if you are creative the FJ swap should be just as easy.
The FJ is a tougher-looking engine, not everybody has one (like CA is everywhere) and makes just as much power as a CA, built similarly. The biggest downside is it weighs considerably more. See Engine Swaps for an overview.

I love the FJ motor. I read extensively about it and it is a much tougher engine. I was told that the only problem is availability of parts, perhaps not true in Australia/NZ.
Is that a valid concern??? Other than that, that FJ is a bullet proof motor.

yer i have heard the motor is very heavy, i know they are tough, but a CA isnt exactly weak and in a little car should take a bit.

yeah they're pretty heavy especially in a 1200. Even in my 720 was a big difference to the L20B.
but hell for $250, buy it as a daily! You can view topic.
