#1 Who has put a SR into a 1200?????
BUNDY351 Posted on: 2007/1/16 0:48
Hay all, just been looking through some old threads and was wandering who has sucsessfully put a SR20 into a 1200. I think 'HOMER' has and I am pretty sure 'HUX' has or is doing it at the moment. I am after info on what the conversion intales. I plan on going SR20DE if the infomation I gather is what I want to hear. I want to know about engine bay fittment, mounts, tranny tunnel, G/boxes, brake and clutch master cyl set ups and anyother details you can come up with. The main reason I am doing this is cause bang for buck I think the SR20 is the go. Especially for me as I want to go NATURALLY ASPIRATED and there are allot more performance parts out there for me and much cheaper prices. Thanks for reading this far and hope to hear back soon. If the conversion to SR20DE is too F##KING hard or illegial in QLD then its back to the CA18DE and its expensive hard to get parts.

Judging by the pic below it looks like the SR20DE is a nice fit into the engine bay of a 1200. Wander about the tranny tunnel. Or do the SR and CA share the same gearbox

Thats my ugly looking engine bay :)

Its now back to A series after a few reliability issues.

I was running a stumpy box with sr bellhousing. In an auto tunnel. no mods requires. I was then using the auto tailshaft which bolted up.

This car never had a swaybar while it was SR powered. It also had group a commo shocks, so it was a handful to say the least.

You can also click on the www button below to see more pics of the conversion...

Sometimes i wish it was still SR powered :|

man... what reliability issues can you get from a stock SR that would make u go to all the effort of changing back to a sereis?

looks like it was a lot of fun from the vid

nice and smooth, and torquey i bet

i love a sleeper

There's two here with SR20DETs? I imagine fitting the non-turbo would be a bit easier?

In a '71 Coupe...

Mid 80s Ute...

Firewall cut in the Ute was for engine set-back. Not totally necessary for the swap.

I had 2 diffs go in 1 week. then a fuel pump and what i thaught was a gearbox.... :(

Plus the swaybar issues.

I imagine you would struggle to fit everything in if you went turbo and wanted a front mount. You would need to make sure you mounted it really far back. Mine had JUST enough room for the radiator and the thermo mounted frontside of the grille!
