1200 coupe problems

I jus took my datto to the mechanics to get the engine checked over and its got 2 f@cked pistins, blown head gasket which is letting both those pistins run into each other. A blown inlet exaust manifold gasket in pretty much every place it could be blown, letting exaust and too much air run through the engine. Im running, well kinda running, a 1200 block with a 1500 head and twin 40's. Jus wondering if anyone can tell me if its worth upgrading to a a15 or jus rebuild the engine i got?

its simple... a15, dont bother with the existing block if it has two pistons running into each other, the bores are probably well and truely out of round.

A15, no question. Why waste time with the smaller wimpier engine?

Although if you can't find an A15, and A14 is pretty much as good as the A15...a smidgen less torque but probably same top speed given the produce almost the same horsepower.

The only problem i have is the engine mounts, I hear the only way to get them is off a ute or sumthin. Is it easy enough to use the same head and carbs?

you will need mounts about 2 inchs long. steel plate does the job, it should be in tech section. 1200rc has a template somewhere

Is it possible to give the 1200 a bigger bore and get new pistons? I really jus wanna find a cheap way to get it on the road again, startin to get withdrawl syptoms!

Bore and new pistons will be infinitely more expensive than a A14/15 block.
You can either get a 1200 ute crossmember or just make the 2" steel plates that 1200rc has a template for. I think this would be faster and cheaper then rebuilding the 1200 block..... I fitted an A14 into a 1200 coupe with no one but the great guys of this site to help - and I did all the work myself - and I suck at working on cars...well I've got a little better since....but not much.

im with mild man here. 1200rc taught me a few tricks and since then, engine swap done, struts, springs, carbs, etc, water pumps etc... its all pretty basic stuff to muck around with on these cars.
ive got 2 left thumbs (one was broken and i dint realise it and i dont want to break it to reset it properly again) and i can do all this. Just scared of head gaskets and electrics still (i attempt it though)

you can transfer your head and carbs over onto your new A14/15.
Quote: Just scared of head gaskets and electrics still well the head in our old dinosours arent to bad. could have one off, new gasket in and back on again in half a days work (at my own easy going pace).... electronics... what are they? we as proud datsun owners are lucky enough to have very little in our cars...
