utheremate Posted on: 2007/3/19 5:19
i am starting this thread in order to collect a list of all the ripoff mechanics and reconditioners

i have just picked up my twin webber manifold from yatala head worx (needed a bit of welding and machining) after being quoted 80 at the most the bill on pickup was 182 (more than double)

so i thought i would worn my datsun community about this buisness

so if you have a similar story about this or another buisness let us all know

With any Carb stuff go to Carb-tech in redcliff, great lads up there and do good work.

Quote's change easliy . I got quoted 5000 for my paint job guy halve finished it and chages me 2500 (fair enough) next guy has look at it "this rubbish we have to start again" 6000 + the 2500 from before.

You need to get a written quote if your to have a leg to stand on when they change their mind.

Having said that there is dodge mechanics out there

he said it took awile to do but from the time i rang (said he hadnt started yet) to the time he rang back was on two hours and at the time i rang he said it would be a couple of hour before he could get to it so i estimate it would have taken half hour at the most for three tig welds (about 30mm each at the most and they sandblasted it.

also if people could reply with the good buisneses such as carb-tech aswell(it would be good to have a wiki with all the good and bad options

so are you saying you would recomend the first painter to all your freinds because i wouldnt.

the point of the thread is to point out to others these people for what they are ripoffs
so if you would like to post the names of the first painter as a ripoff and the second as a good person to get a paintjob of then others will not get riped off by the first painter and the second painter will get a good rap

You know even the big guys in the business are rippoffs.... Like most Dealerships. I work with Fords, I'd never take my car to them or own a modern one to be honest.

Good guys in there it's just they are forced to take the business approach to things and thus work is never as good as it should be.

Another point that really burns me is spare parts. It's supposed to be about what the customer NEEDS yet it's turned into "how much overpriced underquality stuff can we force them to buy?"

All modern cars are designed for business, not durability and endless driving pleasure like they should be.

I think oldschool, it's how it was and how it should be.

p.s. I do like my job at Ford at the moment, but the whole business thing they do really fustrates me
