What rev limit on CA18DET?
Coops
Posted on: 2007/5/20 2:24
Anyone know what the torque / HP spread is in relation to max RPM.....
ie/ When should I be changing? Also (out of interest) is it fuel or spark cutoff?

7300 rpm is when you fule cut kicks in
you can buy a bee*r that cuts the spark insted of fule bee*r rev limiter = big flames

Max power from tuned stock ca18det is 175hp@ 6400 Max tourqe is 166 ft/lbs @4000 So its really a waste of time reving much more than that changing at 6500 should be fine. Modify the sucker with a decent turbo and power can be made to 7000+ my new engine made good power to 8800rpm but we cut it back (dialed cams in) for longeivity. Rev limit is at 8000 but starts to flaten out at 7300. I normally shift at around 7500

Thanks ca18det_man.
Hmmm, I wonder how running my T28 effects this? Does anyone know where the T28 makes peak power. ie/ Lower or higher in the rev range than the (stock) T28.

all ca18 engines will run different, due to inlet lengths, exhaust size etc...
put it on the dyno and u will have concrete evidence when the torque drops off.. btw what size t28??? bb??

Hi Coops
I have the bigger T28 off a GTi-R (.86 exhuast A/R) and I am making peak power at 7,000rpm. With the S15 200SX size T28 (.64 exhaust A/R) you should have peak power below this and it should be a nicer thing to drive as mine is a bit laggy. I intend on changing to a the smaller exhaust housing when this turbo needs replacing. Matty

Hey Matty,
Are you running a chipped standard ECU? Kev's been talking to me about chipping up my ECU. I'm thinking this must change the ignition / fuel mapping & I'm also told it increases the rev limit to 8200 rpm. I'm just wondering what benefit's the aftermarket chip gives & if there's a noticable increase in power. i.e; If I'm currently reaching peak power with the std ECU @ 6500 - 7000 rpm & there's no great increase in power with the new chip (just an increased rev limit) then I don't see much benefit. Your thoughts? Anyone else running the chipped ECU - What sort of power increase / change did you get? You can view topic.
