Transporting an engine???
Trav

Hey there guys,
This is probably a dumb question to the more experienced guys but in the next week or so i will be picking up an a14 i have recently purchased that has been completely rebuilt and with twin webber, extracters, cam etc and it will be my first time transporting an engine so just wondering how to best go about it. Just wanted to know if anyone had some hints and tips. It is a complete engine and box and will be going in my ute as is so i don't want any costly mishaps. Will i need a crane to lift it in and out of my ute or will a few blokes be able to lift it? What is the best way to position and secure it in my ute? What is the best way to store the engine once i get it to my place? As i said having never done it before and never seen it being done just want to know the best way to go about it. Thanks guys Trav

if you look at dodgemans photo's i think he had an engine transporter thing he put into his trailer to trnasport engines.
so it wouldn't move and wouldn't get damaged, maybe you can knock something up for your ute tray? just don't sit it on the sump as you could dent it and damage the pickup....

got a spare crossmember you can bolt it to?
would pretty much ensure that it didnt fall over but sitting the sump in a tyre and then just use lots of tie downs to secure it nice and tight usually works well

Tyre and ratchet straps, hook the straps around the front and back (not over the top) so the engine doesn't slide around.

To save time, I always smash the dizzy cap off with a hammer before I start.

hahaha
Prob easier to move engine around withough box on. easy to remove and lug in and out of ute. Two guys can easy pick up an a series but makes it more awquard and heavier with the box. Tire or crossmember is the way to go i rekon with some tiedowns

Take a short section of 4x4 lumber with your, and set the front part of the oil pan on it. It's the same height as the sump and so it will sit level.
Or just set the sump in an old tire. Then tie the engine down. No worries.
