#1 Datsun Watch
sssute Posted on: 2007/9/1 13:17
My old man gave this to me the other day, He has had it 30 odd years, from the days when he worked for Datsun.
Its a Seiko with time, date and day, you can even have the day in Japanise. The interesting thing about it is that it doesn't have a battery, it uses movement on your arm to wind the the watch.

I found out that they dont make that type of winding style any more, the new ones have a battery that is charged by movement. And they sell for over $2000.
I looked into getting the glass replaced, and found out that it is crystal and they cant replace it. Bugger

Take the watch to another place. It's a Seiko, so a replacement "crystal" should be available, even if by special order.
Mate, what you have there is a VERY nice piece of kit, very nice indeed.
If it should need the time set, just send it off to me & I'll fix it up & just check it for a few years to make sure it keeps time well. It's a service I provide.

Incidentally, as far as I can tell, what you & I call a watch glass, or lens, is generically known in the timepiece trade as a 'crystal' Apparently they were actually made from a crystal back in the days when dinosaurs roamed the earth, but that material hasn't been used for a very long time as it is far too expensive & offers no advantage at all over other materials.

The material changed, but the name stuck.

Having worked at Nissan dealerships for 25 years I have seen some really bad knock offs but that time piece is killer. If dodgeman is not available to check it for a few years I will gladly volunteer. Very very nice, thanks for the pic....now if I can find one.........
