#1 R30 Skyline rims - Paint or polish?
Coops Posted on: 2007/10/8 3:27
Scored myself some 15 x 6" R30 skyline rims .

They're a bit ratty, but will tidy up o.k.
I want to keep them silver to stay with the blue / silver colour scheme on my ute, but I'm undecided whether to re-paint in say a silver metal-flake or to polish them back up.
Perhaps a combination of both.....

what do you guys think?

Also - Any advice on tyre choice would be welcome....
I'm thinking 185's on the front & 195's on the rear.
I want a reasonably low profile though to avoid fouling the guards, but also want to fill the wheel arches.
I was thinking between a 45 & 55 profile, but I've heard 45's can be hard to find & expensive.
I've also heard some brands make a 50 profile......

Also looking for something reasonably sticky.
What are you guys with 15's running?

I had the same rims but not on a 1200. Go for the combination, polish the dish and paint the centre the color you want. by polishing just the dish it makes them look heaps fatter too.
Did you get the skykline centre caps?, because if not there is a old pulsar fwd hatch that has D centre caps that will fit these rims.
With the tyres check the offset first and see if you can go fatter than 195. you will need as much grip as possible with that motor.
Im running 15inch chasers with 205 semi slicks on the back of mine and i think thats about as fat and grippy you can go with 15inch rims and no mods.

If your going to paint them Id go with the color called silver ice metallic ( Holden color)its a very fine silver and suits rims well .also use a 2pak high build primer It will help keep a high gloss and is alot hardier when it comes to chips n scratches..........

Go powder coat with a polished rim section IMO. looks great and lasts a long time.

I must admit I quite like the powdercoat look as well.

As for tyres, I have the cheapest low profile option (195/50) on my TRX rims and they fill the guards just fine. My ute has a 2in drop in the front and 2.5in in the ass end.

nankang make a 185 45 15, or atleast i think thats the size, its what boof has on the white rims on his sedan
they seem to have no problems holding the car on the road round corners

but 195 50s are easy enough to fit on 1200s and are easy to get

The rims I sold my brother (and the 14" Toyota rims I am running now) were powdercoated metallic silver with clear over. They look better than factory and easy to clean Polished edge is the go too
Good luck!
Cheers

Thanks guys......

Benny & Boof's rims seem to be slightly different than what I've got though.... Hmmm!

Mine seem to have a few more spokes & less dish.
More like a TRX rim.... Which means the offset should be better I suppose.

I'll post a photo of them tomorrow to see if I can get someone to Id them.

boof did have the same wheels as did ange.
boiffs tyres are good for the $$$ and you can go slightly lower with the lower od of the tyre withour rubbing etc.
