SR 20 DE oil cooling advice
converted
Posted on: 2007/10/17 23:15
Hi guys,
I was wondering for my new N/A Sr20DE setup whether it is necessary to have an oil cooler on the engine for short laps (ie max 7 at a time at Eastern Creek) and supersprint racing? I have a baffled and winged / ribbed sump. Have the SR's got oil cooling problems like the A series have. I have to change my setup and Im just thinking it may be easier to just delete the cooler altogether. I was wondering too if someone had a unversal sandwich type oil filter and cooler adapter. I currently have a remote one and it takes up alot of space in the engine bay. What do the drift boys use or any ideas what the BTCC Primeras used in their SR20 powered cars?

Do you have an oil temp gauge? Might be worth it to do a few laps with an eye on the gauge to see what the go is. It's a relatively stock engine, & if you put a reasonable sized
radiator, that should help draw some of the heat away, too. this might allow you to run without the cooler, giving you more room to get air to the block to cool it. Wish 3j would allow you to raise the rear of the bonnet slightly to help the engine heat escape. Wouldn't affect the body shape too much, which is what the original argument against this was.
