Hi Guys, i just purchased a 1973 Datsun 1200 sedan, sporting a CA18det, and a few mods. has small front dics brakes, and a stock diff with a locker, looking to upgrade both brakes and diff.
Also have a competitive track only R32 Skyline Drift Car (But thats another story) The 1200 is my new daily, just tidying up a few things... any info or help would be appreciated? I'm on the north side or brisbane...

click here for info on anything to do with brake upgrades.
one other option which i don't think is listed in the wiki is the S13 silvia front disc/caliper upgrade. try the search bar just too your left to find some good info on that.

Add the Wilwood brakes too!
It's worth it solely on what you save buying performance brake pads.

Wilwood arn't legal for road use in Australia. I've been told that they don't have dust seals in for the pistons. Truth be told I haven't reseached this, purely going on what I've herd and been told.
Anyways welcome to the sight, always good to hear of another confused northsider that doesn't know were he lives!! Datsuns are old cars and pritty much everything that can be done has been done before. There is heaps of info available on this forum or else where. Or there is the "datsun guru" Kevin Rowley in Brisbane who can give you a heads up. PM me if you want his number, he can help with brake upgrades. Diff? R31 or Commodore Borg Warner shortened will do the trick. Catch ya

I've been researching that for a while, it seems long ago they didn't have dust seals, and now they do... perhaps... or some models do... I never managed to get a straight answer other than prior to 2001 or so they definitely did not have dust seals, it seems like there was a design change that added them, since they are used on vehicles that run in the dirt.
there's also the issue of " no brakes are 'approved' " which is another debate entirely. ok... more info.... why don't most wilwoods have dust seals... they are designed to not need them, it seems the dynapro series has dust seals, but the other ones are designed to a spec where "dust can't get in" and if they had seals, the seals would be a liability when the brakes were used as designed to the point the rotors glow and the seals fry. so... take that however you wish.

Kevin Rowley can supply you a bracket to mount the S13 caliper to the 120Y strut. You will need to machine the outer diameter of the 120Y hub to fit inside of the disk. Or do as I have and have custom hubs made (see my pics).
If you want Pm and I'll give you Kev's number. He is a top bloke an will chew your ear off about datsun's. Dont ring him if you've only got a spare 2mins, he likes a chat and love's Datsuns. TOP BLOKE You can view topic.
