#1 ca18 in to coupe
mattblack Posted on: 2008/6/7 1:24
Hey There, Just a question for all you ca18 people...I am interested in putting a ca18 into my coupe, but it has a manual trans tunnel, do i HAVE to use a bigger tunnel , maddat style or similar? or does this just make it possible to remove the box with motor in place? Does the shifter (s13 G/box) end up to far back? I've done a search on this but not much luck.
Thanks for you help.
Cheers

yea a few people hear say leave the standard tunnel in , but to take out the gearbox you gotta take out the motor

i when with the maddat tunnel

the shifter is 10 - 15 cm far er back i like it where it is .

i have the stock 1200 ute tunnle in mine is a bit of a pain ass to get the gearbox out not to bad but i just undo the motor cross member and drop it about 2inch on the jack and then gear box comes stright out

and with the shifter i put mine in backwards takes a bit to get use to but is alot better to change gears

You can use the standard tranny tunnel with a CA18DET conversion, all i did when i had my coupe is cut about a 25-30cm square of the top of the tunnel, from the shifter towards the fire wall, the shifter is about 50-60mm back from the standard position. As mentioned before it is a tight squeeze, its hard to put oil in the gearbox unfortunatly, drop the gearbox is the only way, Automatic tunnel is bigger than the manual tunnel.

I was going to go with the Stumpy box...
Is this an easier fit? room wise, or pretty much the same deal? ( I know the shifter should be in the standard position).

Sorry to jump on the back of your thread, but it's up the same avenue.

if you use a stumpy g/box the shifter ends up only slighty back, you have to massage the tunnel slighty with a sladge hammer but it will fit. but if you ever have to change the clutch the whole motor has to come out.
