Well today i finnaly got around to replacing the broken engine mount on the passenger side of the 1000. When i pulled it out it has copped alot of heat! 1/2 the rubber is gone and left a massive cracked crater(from heat). Im running Genie 4-1 Extracters and had to grind about 15mm off the engine braket for the mount and about 10mm off the meatal of the mount itself for it to squeese in past the runner.
The extracters have had heat wrap on them their whole life in the car. Ive wrapped this new mount up in left over heat wrap to see if it helps(doubt it).
Has anybody else had this problem? It drove fine with the broken mount but would like to see if there is a easy fix!

My corolla (yeah i know) has a plate metal shroud covering the rubber mount on the manifold side, maybe bend up a bit and give this a go? Or try cortina mounts?

there is like no room hey! My dad suggested a heat sheild like that or maybe its running too retarded? I cant get the thing to ping at all and the timing mark is WAY off from anything!

1000 and 1200 mounts are different so i donno if the cortina trick works?

The engine mount i put in is now melted apart too! And this one has collapsed and the sump just touches the X member now... not good!
I might try using a bit of steel and spacing it foward to the original hole on the X member. Atm they are on custom extened mounts welded to the X member.

Heat on the mounts was such a problem that Datsun engineers fitted little heat shield to the exhaust side mounts in the B310 (maybe B210 as well).

That's with stock exhaust. So you know the problem will be worse with your extractors almost touching the mount...

Your choices:
* move the mount
* move the exhaust
* fit un-meltable mounts
* fit a heat shield

What ive just done is move the mount back to the factory hole on the X member and made up a plate. Doesnt look as clean as it did with the modifyed X member mount but it does the job. All painted blend-in-black too!

Hopefully it will hold because its my last 1000 mount and it looks a little old! Will have to do the 1200 trick next time!

you might want to look at the poly-urathene style mounts.

I am using some of a Jag. The part number is at home. but they are heaps wider but no tallers, so they make a good direct replacement, plus they are high temp rated.

Or you could just bolt up the mounts.
