#1 LIFE EXPECTANCY OF THE PETROL ENGINE
1200wag Posted on: 2008/6/19 15:55
Okay. We all know fuel prices are reaching astronomical heights. I don't know about you guys but I have nightmares about one day not being able to drive a datto, be it due to strict emmissions laws or a REAL oil crisis. My wagon won't be the same with an electric or hybrid engine in it...
So how long does the petrol combustion engine have to live???
Predictions anyone...

Yes, it will be faster then.

Yes, last summer I raced White Zombie with my stocker 1200. Here is the timeslip:

Petrol 1200: 19.887 @ 65 mph
Electric 1200: 11.466 @ 114 mph

2013 might be when the oil runs out, though there are theories comming out now that we might actually have far more oil than what is thought at the moment, but I will buy brandy and drive my petrol engine on that if needs be. But only occasionaly, and I'll snif every last fume that it emmits. And I will be happy...

However, I want to predict that oil will run out before the last A series engine does it's last RPM.

they have shale and sand oil prodution which will see us through another 100 years at least. Then you have biodiesel etc.
Dont worry let everyone go to these (new ) technologies and always drive your datsun.
the fuel injector saw fuel reserves be extended another 30 years then deeper drilling. there will always be another technology around the corner.
lets not bow down to the hype...dont get sucked it.
Plenty of oil in antarctica too its everywhere.....

jasas...... (772 ft. lbs.)

suddenly, I don't care for old oil engines so much no more...

as to the Question, hopefully short, very short..

I Also worry of my car being completed before the oil runs out! Might have to start stashing fuel.

Converted is right not to be converted
Shale oil refining is a great option, but implementing it in the monopolised industry is the issue.

The piston engine will be here for ever. Well at least our lifetime as there are technologies like that of VERTIGRO which produces both bio-diesel and ethanol. Its five years away for self farmers but the technology kills everything else.

Apart from that electric will be an accepted norm as its cleaner and way more efficient way to travel regardless of using coal powered stations. The efficiency of coal powered stations still produces way less co2 than using petrol for transport. The facts are there but we are have a monopoly in battery tech also since the mid nineties NiMH hydrate bought and controlled by a Giant Oil Bastard and now also it seems OEM are controlling production of newer battery technologies by placing massive orders.

Finite fuel reserves---
Crude Oil - 30 years (more for saudi)
Shale oil - 100 years
LPG/CNG- 80 years
Bio-diesel/ethanol - infinite via photosynthesis of algae
Electric - infinite (improved cheaper solar, seawave and thermal towers, Tide Hydro stations as used in Chile since 1920s now owned by our own Pacific Hydro)
Hydrogen - infinite & possible improvements could see this to be the saviour of the piston and rotary engine. Althought he rotary engine wont be used in mazdas for about 10-20 years as a performance motor from 2012.

Also I never believed it but some backyarders have 100s of orders for the Hydrogen/petrol/diesel hydroxy hybrid conversions and customers swear by them such backyarders have been on a current affair, new inventors, today tonite, catalyst and some other shows with more credit. Anyone seen those normal jo blo tinkerers and lawn mower repairers?

I have yet to see actual physical evidence of browns Gas HHO or a Joe Cell actually working. Wow wouldnt it be great to keep our precious cars and running them on water.
I read heaps of forums and even made a joe cell and sure they produce a little bit of dangerous hydrogen but they are not even in the race to be a contender as a fuel.
All you see on these forums is how much it bubbled and how many amps it drew blah blah blah.
No one has actually got a car going. If they say they do its all secret to stop themselves being shots by oil cartel assassins.
One of these guys needs to stand up and show us if they really want to change the world...but no they dont..they are just as bad rip off merchants as the oil barons....
