i have a datsun sunny 78 i think and can not work out how the econometer works any help would be great.

I would assume (without having seen one) that it is a measure of manifold vacuum.

So if you floor it the need will move all the way to "not economy", let the car roll along with your foot off the accelerator it will be full "economy".

So it probably hooks up via a vacuum hose that comes of the carby/intake manifold somewhere.

I used to have a datsun sunny, the econometer was just a round light that would fiicker on whenever i planted my foot.
I also belive it worked off of the manifold vacume.

Mildman is smack on the money. It is also handy for telling when you have a vacum leak.

well all the emissions stuff was disconnected and all the lines have been replaced so could it be anything else?? Because ooking at the back of it nothings there really no lines or anything?

so is it not working? lack of a vaccum line going to the guage could be causing this that would be why there are no lines or anything

I just bought a '79 sunny and it still has the emissions gear etc. and the econometer still works (infact everything works!!). I can have a look when I get a chance if you like.

My stanza has an econometer... interesting little doo-dah.

Yes unhooking it will stop it from working...
