#1 throw out bearings
Posted on: 2008/7/23 13:05
looking at replacing a noisy 56a 4 speed with 60a 4 speed. Are the throw out bearings the same and gear box x members?
Any thing i have to look out for

Pretty sure crossmembers are different - the 60 series I bought had a custom crossmember on it to bolt up to a 1200 - so I assume the std xmember probably doesn't bolt up....

Yes, crossmembers are different.
Throwout bearing is the same
Throwout bearing carrier may be different, depending on the car and engine it came out of.

Details: 60-Series Transmission, see 5-speed swap notes, crossmember for 4-spped or 5-speed is the same

what a series is it? I found a 60a would bolt up to a late a12 with the original a12 carrier and bearing no worries (this is the smallest carrier).

As alluded by Cheater, the carriers are interchangeble between boxes.

Lengths (throw) varies to suit Flywheel thickness (bigger engines have thicker flywheels as standard at least). Forks also differ.

Suck it and see!
