#1 GX FACT OR FICTION ?
bobthebuilder Posted on: 2008/8/19 10:59
Hi Guys
Everybody seems to be selling genuine GX bits at the moment. Can any body tell us how many GX vehicles ended up on our shores and did they come with an inventory of spare parts ?
I assummed they were a rarity but the stuff be sold at the moment they must have been common as
CheersBob

There was heaps of stuff imported in the 80's and 90's. Lots of engines and 5 speeds. There are a few in Aouth Africa.

where are you seeing all this gx stuff for sale?
i know on ebay, anything to do with a 1200 is headined gx, rare, etc, so it makes it look like every second part on there is a gx bit.

I have seen only 1 GX sedan for sale on ebay not long ago but it was a Sth Sfrican import. I have seen one on ebay japan go for over 20k USD and I have seen a picture of one at John Taylors which was imported for motorsport purposes....never rego'd.
You wont get a GX badged coupe in Australia. There is a guy on this forum who reckons he has one lined up. I have never seen one in the flesh.
I WOULD LOVE ONE...but I know I would turn a shade of blue / death / grey if I held my breath cause coupes dont exist in Australia.

A lot of sellers of oval port heads are under the misconception that they are GX heads when they are not.

GX FACT OR FICTION ?

There were less than 10,000 GX 1200s produced. So they will be very rare after 35 years. Engines often survive after the cars have crashed or rusted away, so the engines are only somewhat rare.

The only 1200 coupe GX(Datsun factory built) was the one Datsun imported for us at John Roxbourgh Motors(Datsun Racing Team) back in the 70s. Other coupes were built up back then to try and look and go like the one and only, but could never succeed. As far as i can recall these cars were never sold in australia.
The GX heads were avaliable over the counter and many Clubmans had them on there 1200 motors.
Which is why there are a few GX heads floating around.
Hope this helps or confuses you???
GREG.
PS Some one on this site says he has the 1200 coupe that use to belong to the racing team,he may wish to contact us and let us know what condition it is in today??
