#1 once again the s13 disk conversion
frankthedolphintrainer Posted on: 2008/8/27 14:10
sorry to bring it up again but im doing the s13 disk and caliper conversion on the 120y struts. the question is everyone says they get the 120y hub machined down so that the s13 disk fits over it, instead of doing this can you use the 1200 drum hub instead. it looks like it will fit but i may be wrong.... if i dont get somebody saying they had a problem tonight ill try and fit it tommorrow

I didn't need to get the 120y hub machined down to fit the S13 discs, just fits straight over if i remember correctly. Just fit longer hub studs from a skyline and all good.

can use drum hub for sure. Slips straight over.
The drum hub is slightly shorter meaning the caliper to disk offset is different.
For ease of making the caliper bracket, use the disk hub. It will mean the braket can be flat and you wont have to space the caliper on the braket to centre disk on the cailper.

Hope that made sense. Talking in terms of b110 hubs aswell.

yeah jake. i have just finished the conversion myself and you need to machine or file down the front of the hub so that the small hole of the rotor fits over and also you need to machine/grind the back part of the hub where the studs are to allow that to fit into the discs recess (dish shape). longer studs (i used the S13 ones) are required because now you have about 10mm of discs sitting between the wheel and the hub. which means you gain about 20mm in track width at the front. which means you may need to get the guards flared if you havent already.

i would say machine, u wouldnt wanna file it, atleast when u machine it it will be even and balanced kinda,

i done that conversion and had to machine the hub also, only like 3mm but it was still 3mm

I did this conversion using the drum strut and hub halfway through last year. The s13 disk slips over he drum hub perfectly. This conversion leaves you with basically stock track width. But to make the caliper mounts is alot more pissing around with spacers etc. If I were you I would just machine the disk a lil bigger so it fits over the disk hub. Im a big fan of modfying things to fit the car rather than modifying the car to fit the things.

would have thought that more ppl would have used the drum hub, the whole "i dont want a track increase" argument for stocko struts kinda goes out the window if your using a disc hub and spacing the wheel out with the discs

I think it'd be better to machine the hub down. It doesn't seem to be a sound idea to me to remove any meat from the disc. You'd need a lathe to relieve the disc, whereas you could make the hub smaller with a grinder at a pinch.

oh well, atleast its only 7/8mm each side

be better off with drum struts and stanza ball joints, same track increase and more camber

providing you have late model suspention stuff
