Sooooooo I have to fess up.
Last session of the day at last months SCCA / Porsche Club track day, as I went pounding over my favorite curbing.......there was this shhhhink plink plink nose..............now being more idiot driver than mechanic, I figured I was just bit to overzealous and what the heck it's only about the 500th time in the last 20+ years that the undercarriage has met with terra firma.........it's a Datsun it'll be fine and it was except for the water temp crept up to 205ish but again being a driver I just assumed this was due to the motor never going below 5000 RPM's for 5-6 laps. Well when I get home and unload, the car makes this horrible chirpy noise, almost like a bad throw out bearing, open the hood and the fan belt is running sort concentric. About every 1/3 of a turn it's half out of the water pump pully groove...........the observant genius that I am I notice the alternator shaking like it has the DT's....................the only thing holding it on was the one pinch bolt on the top. Whenever I take the cylinder head off I usually do not undo the lower mounting hardware but after installing the ported head I'm thinking the only possible answer is................................some jealous Porsche driver snook in my garage and loosened those bolts!!! Tom, whose Datsun always runs despite his mechanic.
