#1 Datsun 1200 overheating
Pillay Posted on: 2008/10/29 16:54
Hi Folks
I have a stock standard 1200 engine in a Morris Minor, recon radiator. new manual fan, new water pump and removed thermostat but heat gauge goes beyond 82 degrees. What could cause the engine to overheat.

90 or below is fine... most wont sit exactly at 82, all depends on the tolerences of the thermostat. Removing thermostat wont entirely help as once it reaches temp, there is nothing to slow down coolant. Too slow coolant contains too much heat, too quick a flow of coolant and not enough time through radiator to remove heat from coolant.

Does sound like there is another problem though

Why remove thermostat ? They serve a purpose i always check thermostats in boiling water. Believe it or not i have had a few new ones that were duds. Have you had or given the cooling system a complete flush ? All that aside your not running much hotter than normal anyway.
