120y dashboard in a 1200?

Ok, I have a cousin with a 120y that has a messed up gearbox (cant stay in gear unless you keep it in which takes a toll on your arm) so its up on blocks.
He also has an old diesel merc with a blown head gasket which I think he would prefer to get up and running as compared to the 120y... so I want to use parts off his 120y for my 1200. My dash is messed up (take a look at my pics) and thought I would swap them out - would that work? I also want to swap the carbs (mine is in a state!), sway bars, fuel tank filler-neck pipes (mines cracked near the top end-making the cab smell of fuel everytime i turn a corner!) and if he has a center consol, i'l grab that out too! Will all of these swaps work?

carb will swap over , front sway bar are great upgrades on a 1200.
you should take front struts and brake assembly as with other ball joints it should swap over depending which ones you have. if his diff is any good take the whole rear assembly as a spare, just need to rejig brakes hoses etc. center console will screw in, not sure on dash of fuel filler neck but if its free... why not try.

Or you could just stick your gearbox in his 120Y. If you hit the brakes too hard in your 1200 the whole car will fall apart around you with all the rust!!

Well, I had a word with my cousin and he will only allow me to swap parts if I can guarantee a sale of about US2000 of his 120y after Ive done what i want to it.
![]() Yea... I think I'll just let it rot on his farm and make a plan to get my parts else where! ![]() Anyway, I've got a couple of guys looking around for a nissan champ dash with a tacho for me, as well as the sway bar (guys this side call it the stabiliser bar?) Im also making a plan to do a "service replacment" for my carb - Linkages are worn, float is cracked and the spring inside the float needle is rusted so not giving good tension (hence all the flooding), not to mention choke linkage missing & jets rattling about (having being held in place by a jammed up piece of paper) and not allowing my engine to idle - only at really high revs... I had a near miss this week - i was paying attention to tire skid marks of an 18 wheeler in the outer lane at the robots infront of me and hadnt realised cars directly infront of me hadnt started moving despite the green light-so I slammed down on the break pedal - my tires started squealing, but the body held together quite well . I almost hit the back of the C-class infront of me! I had to ease off braking so my steering would respond and I landed up parrallel (on the right hand side) with the car infront of the merc! Good thing my wife wasnt with me!Guys want to charge me from US60 to US200 for a replacement carb......How do I tell if its in good nick or not? Should I just try to find a weber dgv 32/36 instead of getting the same hitachi carb as i have?

Oh, the body work on his 120y is in the same state, if not worse than mine.
I'm planning on fixing it up as good as cash will allow, then when I leave zim in about 6 months, I'll sell it off and hopefully by another in South Africa or Australia - which ever we make it into! You can view topic.
