#1 Camshaft information RPM?
donditaa Posted on: 2008/12/17 16:25
Hi, there

I need a little help please, if I have a camshaft that have.
"Advertised duration is 286"
".050duration is 245" and ".460 valvelift",
what range of RPM is the power band make?

It will depend on which engine you fit it to... An A12? A15?

Keep in mind that an A14/A15 engine's cylinder head limits its max power to about 5500 rpm (without porting). The A12 GX head was good (without porting) was 6600 RPM. So a higher duration cam will loose low end power below a certain RPM, and not raise the top RPM. But it should increase the HP at higher RPMs.

This page explains "duration": Popular Hot Rodding

* The Datsun 1200 FIA cam was .350 lift, and that was good for max 6600 RPM. It was 256 degrees (unknown how measured).

* Stock A12 Cam: 248

donditaa, is that your Norris Cams piece? Norris should be able to tell you something about it, most cam grinders are friendly and helpful.

Hi There alot of time out of log in I saw few company of camshaft...... Do you listen about make more stroke to a15 engine like put crankshaft like e15 or crack shaft ... do you know some crackshaft that can fit and make more troke???

Thanks you

Dariel

Hola Dariel,

Yes, E16 crankshaft is the one, from 1983-1986 N12 (Pulsar NX/Pulsar EXA) or 1987-1988 XE or 1987-1988 B12 Sentra
* A15: 82 mm
* E16: 88 mm
E16 crank in A15 engine makes 1597 cc. Or better yet, just fit the entire 1987-1988 E16 in your 1200, it is fuel injected and makes 70 hp.

See E16 Crank

Got heads up from a Venezuela cherry owner that the E16 crank
fits the A14/A15 by using shortened E15et rods to 133mm.
Achieved by machining bottom rod cap ends then rebore rod mains.
Then use bushed 77.5/78mm isuzu holden gemini flat tops
for either 1660cc or 1682cc, rod stroke ratio is not the best
but engine is supposedly happy revving to 6500rpm for years.
However need to attain e16 crank, e15 rods & A15 sump.

Front snout is an issue unless using belt driven mazda
B6 head conversion which will suit it well

The crank itself requires some machining, doesn't it?

At the least the reciprocating assembly will require rebalancing with Mallory metal put into the crank.

supposedly E16 crank has shorter C/Ws being a full CWeight unlike A series cranks
and the thrust bearing could need some attention yet piston clearance is not an issue
when you remove and smooth a portion of the piston skirt area which is cheaper than
machining crank counterweights. Depends on the pistons used but the removal is on the
non bore thrust side of the piston skirt as you can see from this pic
from lemonheads previous effort. Its an interesting effort though there are more
than one as I know of 2 in finland, one in Oz and another in souf amerika

more e16 options, ga16de piston pics plenty of meat on top for machining into flat tops
