#1 Dual Anti Roll/Sway Bars
racetech Posted on: 2009/4/28 9:29
Had a look at sparkyza1 datsun, he has dual anti roll/sway bars in.

Is there anyone else that have done something like this, would like to get more ideas of mounting them.

The main reason for this is to decrease roll, anything else it helps with?

a properly set up swaybar shouldn't need 2 to work properly. this would only be for an increase in stiffness which you would get from one single bigger stiffer swaybar. a dual set-up would only create some issues with the swaybar having different arcs and pushing and pulling on the suspension.
i am happy to be proven wrong but i can't see any reason for 2.

I do agree, but in South Africa it is easier to get a second one than a thicker one that will fit.

Thems some serious bits of steel. Wandering wether 2 sway bars with big diameters are overkill and be detrimental to overal handling. Having said that I have just orderd a 22mm sway bar for my ute but there has to be a point where 'bigger isn't always better'
Cheers

are you using a top strut brace? A good adjustable strut brace with a single 21 or 22mm sway bar works very well. Having two front sway bars will toy with your suspension, it will stiffen up the roll but it will affect the handling as far as the ass-end is concerned. Too stiff in the front will increase under steer too.

I fitted a second sway bar to stiffen up the roll after i stiffend up the rear.I use the car in gymkhanas only, and i am still use a standard coil spring that has just been shortend.I found that it made the understeer less and overall handle better. Both the bars are from 1200GX.

I've seen a whole host of "unorthodox" set ups on local autocross/gymkhana cars, one bar would be better, but if you're doing well in your class then keep it as is.

2 bars is usually a budget method used to replicate a thicker sway bar. 2 stock bars ar still usually only as good or slightly stiffer than a 120y bar. but they might be non existant in sa.

using 2 bars in that configuration can be useful ... if the 2nd bars end are fixed to the 1st bar with a similar bracket then you can effectively change the stiffness by moving the brackets on the ends in and out in reation to the bend ...
the closer to the bend the softer the bar ... further out stiffer ... good for playing/tuning your suspension if you have the time and location to practice

What about using three bars? If one bar is very effective, and two a wash, three should be what?
