Can anyone give a good report or the Splitfire direct ignition systems for a ca18det?
Is it a more reliable set of coilpacks or do they just have a higher output? Is it worth the pice tag 300-550? Cheers

Hi mate
I recently fitted them. I haven't noticed a difference at 15psi from the factory coils but I haven't had much opportunity to drive lately. The main reason why I purchased them over the cheaper aftermarket options was the fact that they come with a new coilpack harness. I have three factory harnesses and every one of the has cracked connectors from 20 years of heat exposure. Matty

I'd agree with Matty.
It's more about getting reasonably priced (reliable) replacements. It's not a performance upgrade. New Nissan ones would be AU$1000+. I've had several old Nissan coils fail, using second hand ones rarely ends up a success. And any mechanic that would look at ignition problems will blame the coils and coil harness first. I'd also consider modifying the harness to run more generic Bosch coils (~$70 each) and spark leads. Makes coil failures not cause heart failure. Can you also Change the title to read SPLITFIRE Thanks.

I got rid of the stock coil packs and now run 4 bosch coil packs, there bout 50bucks each, and buy 4 great coil leads.
One of the coil packs can run a AU falcon there that strong.. http://www.nissansilvia.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=192432 there all done.. shows you even how to modify the stock loom..

"Splitfire"
![]() They are good, but as said they are more a cheap replacement for old fried OE units. Just about all the 300+kw SR20's I do the Splitfires are in the quote because 95% of the OE coils that at 10+ years old will not give a clean burn at 1.5bar+
