#1 Ignition switch confusion
Tucson12 Posted on: 2009/7/29 16:41
I am getting ready to put what I think is a 210 (B310) ignition switch in my 73. It was in a bag of parts I got with the car, so i don't know for sure. Looks like the B310 in the comparo in the tech wiki. Just not sure if I have to change the wires around or not. The comparo comments say the middle switch (B210) with pigtail is wired differently. Is the 310 plug and play or do I need to move wires?

Thanks for any help

The B310 switch is not plug and play-- it's a larger diameter and wont' bolt onto to the 1200 lock barrel.

Perhaps you can make it work. At the least you will need to analyze the wiring diagrams (or test the switch with an ohmmeter).

So this hasn't been done? I figured since there was a compao in the wiki this was a easier to find replacement. I haven't looked at it yet, but will try to get it mounted. I can do the wiring part, didn't know about the not bolting up tho, thanks

OK so I went to swap the switch, it is the same on my 73 as the 210 switch in the teck wiki comparo. Does that mean that someone has swapped this one or was the 71 switch the only one with 4 spade terminals, since that one didn't have the acc position?

As it turns out both of these switches check fine with a ohm meter. It seems that the key lock isn't turning far enough or the switch is intermitent. Is the start position the part that fails in these?

Test it with a screw driver. Don't bolt it to the barrel just leave it hanging there.

1971 and 1972/1973 switch are same size but the 1971 doesn't have an ACC position. The B310 (Datsun 210) switch isn't it a large diameter with farther apart lugs?

Update: It seems there are two ignition switches for B110:
* B110 small
* B110 large
The latter is same as B310 (Datsun 210)

Large and Small types are wired differently, so don't try to swap them.
