hey guys.. im a tad confused with fitting this diff.. do we use the short axel of the slyline to become the long axel on the datsun? or do i need to cut down both sides and shorten both alels? thanks shane,

hey mate, going on the user name, you have a v6motor in a 1200 ute ? if so your not gonna get it lic'd ? if yes to both then why cut down the diff leave it just move the mounts to suit the datsuns leaf springs and your wheels will be 75mm futher out both side's .

usually the housing are cut and shortened and billet axles made, the 1200 axles would be too weak and have probly less splines to go into the skyline centre,u r not trying to do it yourself?

i would'nt recommend doin at home, i have cut diff and modified mounts for a doz or so cars and then just had the orinal axles from the diff remachined to suit my new lengths, but you need a good local machine shop for that bit, and with the diff modifing care should be taken to keep it all straight as welding the new brackets and mounts can distort the housings.

this still aint anawerin my question guys.. im not using any of the 1200 diff.. i need to shorten my skyline diff for it..

its running with the standard diff but it wont last.. its a sedan.

short r31 becomes new long/r31 long cut respline becomes new short

yeah, for original 1200 length, cut long r31 axle down 155mm and use short r31 axle as new long one
