I have decided to have a go at building a hub type chassis dyno.
I originaly was going to buy a Dynapack hub dyno but struggled to justify the huge price tag.

Its still in the planing/ drawing stages.

It will have two eddy current retarders, one bolted to each axel via hub adaptors. This has several advantages over a roller type dyno, mainly portability, sensitivity, repeatability and having accurate engine rpm trace via retarder speed.
The retarders i have chossen are made by Frenelsa in Spain.

Im not sure how dynapack`s costs break down. The costs for the one im making divide fairly evenly between the software/controls and the cost of building the hub retarder assemblies.

I`d love to be able to say week, but it will be about December(money permitting).

Im getting some help from another 1200 member with Auto Cad design of the hub adaptors and some other stuff.
The shaft bearings have arrived and the flexible shaft couplings should be here today.
I have to get 300mm bar stock to make the hub adaptors next.

With the design, the cars weight will be supported by the retarder assembly`s two inner wheels. It will have a coil over shock on a swing arm with a third wheel to allow for camber change.

If you get stuck or things don't work out with the other member, give me a bell and i'll help out with cad work.

Bit of an update. The retarders have been made and are being shipped. should see them in about 3 weeks. I hope to have the frames made by the time they turn up.
