#1 Weber 32/36 choke shave.
Aegis Posted on: 2009/8/6 14:11
I bought a weber with a manifold off eBay. The choke butterflys on top have been removed apparently to decrease restriction. Considering this means I have no choke anyway I don't see any issue in shaving the top of the barrels off completely.

I've been told this a fairly common mod to webers or holleys?

Has any one heard of this or done it before?

I haven't done it. What if you do want a choke later on?

It already missin vital parts of the choke. I would rather have a functional choke but it came with out it. So I figure when life hads you lemons make lemonaide, or shave the top off your carby.

Without looking at the aircleaner base you are using you may change the airflow into the carb from a reasonably laminar flow to turbulent causing a reduction in flow and upset the signal to the main nozzles.
Probably a no no.

Removing the chokes is a common mod, but think milling the carb is not common.

I got a weber with this lil ram tube thing on top. only about 1.5cm high oval ring that goes around the top of the throats, like velocity stack on su's (or any other carb)

On the dyno this lil attachment added 4%

So, as ddiesel mentioned flattening the top of your carb may be not such a good idea. Not gospel just thinkin out loud

Thanks for the help guys. I guess I could leave it like it is then. The air cleaner I'll b using is a round, similar to standard chrome filter. I'm glad to hear that the choke removal is an accrual mod rather than just a missing part.

Any thing else that people have done to squeeze some go out of these carbys?

Hmm there isn't much else to get out of them unless you work the engine. What sort of engine configuration are you using/planning?

I'm running an a14, at The moment it only has a fabricated electronic dizzy. But I'm hopeing to Upgrade each piece of ignition equipment (leads, plugs, coil, dizzy) then attach some extractors (prefeabley 4-2-1) and a 2 inch system with a resonator. I haven't had it for long yet but my main concern at the moment is to repaint.

smooth out edges in your manifold,
its pretty obvious I know but I haven't done it yet and those little bits that the adaptor plate doesn't quite cover = free hp
